Christmas Conference 2009

Christmas Conference 2009 will be held at The Woodlands United Methodist Church in The Woodlands, Texas the weekend of December 11-13. The program will include Michael Lindsey and Andy Crouch. Michael is author of Faith in the Halls of Power: How Evangelicals Joined the American Elite, and Andy just released a book entitled Culture Making. Our common reading we are
still deciding but Susan Van Zanten will lead that time. Susan is a distinguished professor of English at Seattle Pacific and Associate Dean for faculty development.

The AFTE scholarship committee recently selected the following as recipients of a John Wesley Fellowship, Class of 2009 and Harry Denman Fellowship, Class of 2009:

John Wesley Fellowship, Class of 2009:

Jung Choi is a graduate of Seoul National University and completed her Master of Divinity at Harvard Divinity School. She also completed a Master of Divinity in Sacred Theology at Yale Divinity School.  She is working on her doctorate at Harvard in New Testament and Early Christianity with an emphasis upon the prophetic communities of faith in the New Testament.

 

Emily Peck-McClain has an undergraduate degree is from Washington and Lee University and Master of Divinity degree completed at Union Theological Seminary in New York City.  She also has done additional graduate work at Ben-Gurion University in Israel.  Emily has particular interest in how Pauline Theology formed the practice of youth ministry and practical theology and will be studying at Duke Divinity School in their Th.D. program.   Today, Emily serves as a pastor at Faith United Methodist Church in Stanton Island, New York, in addition to holding a position as advisor to the Conference Council on Youth Ministry in the New York Annual Conference.

 

Stephen Cady completed his undergraduate studies at Ohio Wesleyan University and received his Master of Divinity from Garrett Evangelical.  He is currently in the first year of his Ph.D. program at Princeton Theological Seminary.  His major field of study is Practical Theology with an emphasis on popular culture and youth worship.  Stephen is ordained, a member of Kansas East Annual Conference, and serves as pastor to Kingston United Methodist Church in Kingston, NJ.

 

Brad Johnson is a member of the Kentucky Annual Conference and received his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University.  He holds two Master of Divinity degrees – one in biblical studies and the other in theological studies – from Asbury Theological Seminary.  He is currently in second year as a Ph.D. student at Asbury Theological Seminary where he is also a Teaching Fellow in Biblical Languages.

 

Angie Temple completed her bachelor’s degree at Rice University and her Master of Divinity at Harvard Divinity School.  She is a member of the Texas Annual Conference and is a first year Ph.D. student at Durham University in England.  Her major field of study is Scripture and Spiritual Formation.  Angie has a particular interest in teaching scripture and spiritual formation in a mission context.

Harry Denman Fellowship, Class of 2009:

Kim Reisman's undergraduate degree was completed at Emory University and her Master of Divinity from Yale University.  She is currently in the Ph.D. program at Durham University in England with a special emphasis on evangelism and reconciliation.  She works in the Department of Theology and Religion there.   Kimberly is an ordained elder in the Indiana Annual Conference and holds a special appointment as the Conference Evangelist for the Indiana Conference.
